Please be aware that we've seen a concerning rise in thefts recently across the region. It's more important than ever to be vigilant and take steps to protect your property.
Thefts from the following areas have been recorded in recent days:
- Talley (Carmarthenshire)
- St. Clears (Carmarthenshire)
- Whitland (Carmarthenshire)
- Ammanford (Carmarthenshire)
- Llandybie (Carmarthenshire)
- Llanelli (Carmarthenshire)
- Carmarthen (Carmarthenshire)
- Milford Haven (Pembrokeshire)
- Pembroke & Pembroke Dock (Pembrokeshire)
- Pentlepoir (Pembrokeshire)
- Saundersfoot (Pembrokeshire)
⚠️ But just because you don’t see your village/town on the list, doesn’t mean that area isn’t “next” on the hit list ⚠️
Sadly, many of these thefts are going unnoticed for hours (sometimes even days) which is giving criminals a significant head start. This makes it much harder for the police to recover stolen items and bring those responsible to justice.
Now is the time to consider investing in CCTV if you haven't already. Visible cameras can act as a deterrent, and recorded footage can be invaluable in identifying perpetrators and recovering your belongings. Even a basic system can make a difference. But beware that CCTV sometimes does not phase criminals and they’ll still continue with the crime - but it’s better to have footage of them as evidence, when they eventually get caught.
Here are some additional tips to help protect yourself:
- Ensure your home and vehicles are locked at all times, even when you're just popping out for a moment.
- Don't leave valuables in plain sight, whether in your home or car.
- Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.
- Install CCTV, ensuring you put relevant signage up.
- Mark your valuable items with a security marker and register them with Immobilise (immobilise.com) which is the UK’s National Property Registry.
Below is a statement from Ajay Owen, CEO/Director of SARS Cymru, on the Thefts in the Dyfed-Powys Area:
"The recent increase in thefts across the Dyfed-Powys area is deeply concerning, and I want to assure our community that we are committed to working with local residents and police to address this issue. The safety and security of our community is paramount. As the Director of a company that focuses on community safety, alerts & issues, I understand the impact these crimes can have, not just financially, but also emotionally. The fact that many of these thefts are going undetected for extended periods highlights the need for proactive measures. While law enforcement is working diligently to address the situation, we all have a role to play in preventing these crimes.”
Ajay continued,
“I strongly encourage everyone to consider investing in home security, including CCTV systems where possible. These systems can act as a powerful deterrent and provide crucial evidence for the police. Even simple measures, like ensuring doors and windows are locked, and not leaving valuables in plain sight, can make a significant difference.”
SARS Cymru is committed to the safety, well-being & happiness of residents across the region, in particular Dyfed-Powys. We’re asking people who are reading this article to share it amongst their communities to raise the on-going issue that is happening across Mid & West Wales, to ensure all residents are taking protective measures.
